DUANE LEE HUBBARD, 1936-2007
REST IN PEACE

My Father, Aeneas's biological Paternal Grandfather, Duane Hubbard, passed away on Thursday morning, February 15th, 2007. We attended his funeral in Hebron, Nebraska this past Monday. It was a nice ceremony. The kind he would have wanted.
My most powerfully emotions of sadness came out while listening to his obituary, seeing the brotherly Masonic Ceremony and hearing the Gun Shot Salute performed in honor of his service as a Marine during the violent Korean War. I suppose part of this sadness came from the fact that I learned things about him during this ceremony, things he and I never spoke of - the stories and wisdom that naturally come from the experiences of his life and his generation. But by the time I was old enough to understand, he was no longer able to, or perhaps wanted to, describe.
I think that the last few years of Duane's life were especially hard on him. He was troubled both by dark thoughts and by the physical pain he suffered. For this reason it would not be fair for me to want him back. I only wish he had been given the opportunity to meet his Grandson, Aeneas. I know Aeneas would have given him the opportunity to smile one more time.
Rest in Peace, Father. Your troubles are over.
