Every picture of us has Jared kissing me. He can't keep is hands or lips off me.
Cayenne gets his first look at Baby Aeneas. We're not really sure what to make of Cayenne's reaction to Aeneas. He is very interested. We actually thought he wouldn't care that much. He's a pretty mellow dog. He gets excited about food and he gets excited about his fetch ball. People aren't really his thing. But this baby...the baby noises make him near frantic. It doesn't appear to be jealousy, it's more just like... interest. Whenever we've let him get close to Jack he licks him pretty obsessively, so we pull the baby back and Cayenne gets a little nuts. We can't tell if he's just excited and he can somehow tell that we love the little baby and so he should, too. Or, if he thinks Aeneas is more like a squirrell we've brought into the house to fatten up for Thanksgiving. He likes his stuffed animals alot. But, if they have a squeaky noise, he doesn't rest until the noise is dead. To be on the safe side, we decided we won't let Cayenne babysit for a while.

The Family Bed. Trends in Parenting seem to go in and out. We've decided to take the new new approach which is really just the old old approach. We'll all sleep together. It saves time in the night to feed and change diapers. It's good for bonding. And we don't really have enough room for everybody to have they're own spot just yet -Sally refuses to sleep in the closet- the only concern that we took very seriously was the belief that adult beds can contribute to SIDS. We looked at some of the research and decided that with a firm mattress and the baby on the mother's side coupled with a protective baby sleep rail that the benefits outweighed the concerns.

Police: You can't do that! Me: What? Police: No pictures taken of the hospital Me: I can't take a picture of my wife and newborn coming out of the hospital? Police: No sir, no pictures Me: Then haven't they already won? Police: Do it quick then...
Here's a pic of just Aeneas where you can't see his testicles ;)!
Notice the Winnie the Pooh blanket. It was mine. So were the green socks, at least I think, we're not really sure where they showed up from. But probably they were mine.
Here's another right-after shot. They're doing the vitals, counting the fingers and administering the SAT, no, I mean counting the apgar(He was a 9 at 1 and a 9 at 5).
Making a few of the important phone calls from the post partum room. Not sure where Emily went. It's her bed, but sometimes she would share!
"You Cannot Go Drink Beer With Your Friends"
Less than 10 seconds old & covered in baby cheese.
He really is a beautiful baby. I swear. This goo shot just isn't the best. He was pretty swollen up coming down the pikeway. Within ten minutes after birth he rounded up and tighten down in all the key spots.

Aeneas is here! Seven and a half, 22 inches. Brown hair & eyes, and some big feet!

Six O'clock appointment to check into the hospital. By nine O'clock the decision has been made to administer a low dose of Pitocin. The Pit immediately increases contractions from every seven or eight minutes to every three or four minutes.
We're settling in for an all nighter. Hopefully Emily can get some sleep tonight. She knows she'll need the strength tomorrow.

Grandma Sally. Ma Turner if you prefer. Sally has been here for about a week. She has been keeping herself busy working on the basement, putting together Ikea furniture and walking the dog. She's going to be very helpful when the little fellow comes.
Any day now... come on out Jack. We're ready whenever you are.

Jack's guard dog.
We also have some red shoes. Put on your red shoes and dance! Sang David Bowie.
The look is decidedly retro. But we're ok with that, and you will be too, Aeneas, at least until you're old enough to have an opinion.
Everyone always asks "Is the baby's room ready?", the answer is no but we do have a cradle ready and waiting.

It's our first bag of disposable diapers. Probably we'll get a bag of baby swag at Hopkins, so it likely won't be the first diapers Aeneas wears, but it's the first we went shopping for. At some point we want to at least try and use cloth, or reusable diapers, but if he's going to go through ten a day for the first couple weeks (hard to believe, but that's the word on the street) then everyone will be happier with disposables.

The doctor says Aeneas' head is down and he's facing the right direction. So, we're locked and loaded. He could come anytime in the next few weeks!

Here's a picture of me in front of The Widow Kip's Bed & Breakfast. It was a nice place. We had a little cottage right near the main house.
